Your Facebook Page is Key

First let’s talk about Facebook business pages!
  • If you don’t have a Facebook business page already, get one set up.
    • Selling from your personal Facebook page is prohibited by Facebook and can get you kicked off. You NEED a Facebook page!
  • If you have one already, update the information.
  • Your Facebook page is a landing page. Treat it like your website. It should convey clearly what it is that you do and your call to action (book now, shop now, get a quote, etc.)
  • Fill out all the information fields when you’re setting up your page. You can edit them on the “About” section. Every information field that makes sense for your business, needs to be filled out. It’ll make your page look more full and more professional. All those information fields help you in search as well.
    • For example, if someone is looking for a local restaurant with takeout and your restaurant hasn’t checked the “offers takeout” box, you probably won’t show up as a search result.
  • Your business name should match your business’ actual name. I know, this sounds too simple, but many times I’ve seen Facebook pages that don’t match the actual business name. It’s bad Facebook etiquette and can get you kicked off or banned.
  • Your profile picture and cover photo should be clear, recognizable, and match your business’ branding.
  • POST!!! I can’t tell you how many business Facebook pages I’ve run across that haven’t posted for weeks, months, or years. It makes me wonder “are they still in business?”.
  • Post CONSISTENTLY. Again, you want to show up and you can’t do that well if your last post was from last Christmas. When your ideal customers find you on Facebook, you want relevant and recent information to show up. Even if your post isn’t perfect, just post anyway. Social media marketing is a muscle and you’ll get better at using it when you use it often. So go post!
    • You don’t have to log into Facebook first thing in the morning and try to create content from scratch, you can schedule out your posts. Scheduling your posts in advance allows you to batch work and frees up your daily to do list. I like using Later for this because their free plan is more than adequate to get started.
  • Ask all your past clients and customers to leave a Facebook review on your page. Reviews help your business come across as professional and likable. Potential customers will look for and trust reviews, so use that to your advantage by getting some on your page!

Other Facebook Tools

  • Create a Facebook event for in person events or online events. Post in the event page frequently leading up to the event. The event will also be highlighted on your Facebook page, again allowing you to show up as relevant.
  • Update your personal Facebook page to reflect your new job title and link it to your business page, set this up as viewable to the public. YOU are the most important part about YOUR business. Be proud of your business. That way when people click on your page for any reason, even if they aren’t friends with you they see your business.
  • Facebook business pages are rumored to be a “pay to play” space, meaning that Facebook prefers businesses that are paying for ads over businesses that aren’t paying for ads. If you’re not ready to pay for ads, that’s OKAY. Just know that only 2-3% of your Facebook followers will see your posts. You can get better results by using some of the trending Facebook tools like live video and groups. Facebook likes it when you use their new features!
  • When you post on Facebook include photos, video, and live video. These are things that “trend” better than a straight text post. Avoid photos with a lot of text in them.
  • Try out Facebook Live! I know it can be scary to “go live”, but with a little bit of preparation, it can have a huge impact on your business. Facebook will promote that live video more than your regular posts.
  • Join and engage in Facebook groups related to your niche.
    • Engage in them, genuinely answer questions, congratulate people’s wins, react and give feedback when asked.
    • As you engage and consistently show up you might occasionally find someone asking for help with something you can help with. Follow the group’s rules, but offer your help or offer to follow up with that person in private message.
      • Example: You are an interior designer. You join several Interior Design-esque groups. You interact with them, offering free feedback and celebrating  people’s wins. Then one day you see a post in which someone says “I can’t figure it out on my own, I would really just like to hire someone to do it for me, is there anyone that you recommend?” You raise your hand and give them your pitch. If they like it, they’ll follow up with you and you just might score a new client!
  • Create a Facebook group! Similarly, you can also create a Facebook group that’s related to your niche. Serve your group with relevant content and occasionally post an offer or two related to your business.
