Small business advice personalized for those who are new to business
If you’re debating between starting your business now vs. waiting for the “right” time, then this blog post is for you! I’m a fan of action and starting your business over waiting and waiting for the perfect moment. And so I’m going to convince you to start your business right now! “But Christine, you don’t understand! Now isn’t a good time!” I’ve heard all the reasons why someone wants to delay starting their business. “I’m still in school” “I’m working two jobs” “I’ve got a newborn” “I’m in debt” “I’ll be moving soon” And most of these are really, really good reasons to pause. But here’s the thing: starting a business isn’t like flipping a switch. There’s a bunch of little steps that happen between not-having a business and having a business. I’m saying there might be good reasons to pause on certain steps to starting a business, but generally speaking, I don’t believe you should wait to start your business. There are steps you can take right now to get a headstart on your business! 1) Start while you’re excited about itYou won’t be excited about your new business idea forever. So I say ride the high of being excited about it and get started! Start a journal and write down EVERY business idea that comes into your brain, even those that you think are “so obvious”. Once you get into the pesky details of starting your business like budgets, legal filings, and lease agreements you often forget all these brilliant ideas you had in the very beginning. 2) Build your audience nowOne of the hardest parts about starting a new business is not having an audience to launch to when it comes time to launch. You can start building your audience on social media right now before you even have a business. What topics or discussions are your ideal customers / clients likely to be interested in? How can you facilitate those discussions and interests right now? 3) Learn by trial and errorYou can theorize about business all you want, but you’ll never learn as much as you do when you try something yourself. In most cases, you can start offering your products or services on the side in a limited capacity to test the waters. How is it received? What is the feedback you’re getting? How can you make it better? As you can see, I believe there are many reasons why you should start your business right now and many ways that you can! If you would like to discuss some of these reasons, let’s chat. The first session is free!
